Patricia is a recognized immigrant rights leader and a tireless advocate for just economic and social policies, including a just U.S. immigration policy. Having earned her degree in journalism from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras, Patricia worked in public relations and communications in both government agencies and non-governmental organizations in Honduras, as well as in television production for over six years. She worked on national civic engagement campaigns with Caritas, a social services organization affiliated with the Catholic Church that advocates for the poor and oppressed.
Upon her arrival in the U.S. she began volunteering with Centro Presente and quickly became a Board member and eventually a community organizer. In 2009 she was elected by the Board of Directors to the position of Executive Director. She has served as the Board Chair of the Boston Womens Fund. She has also been a member of an international human rights mission to Mexico and Central America assembled by Consejería CAMEX which has documented the violations of human rights of migrants in their travels from Central America to the United States. Patricia has presented on the results of the mission in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Washington D.C., and at the United Nations in Geneva. Patricia received a certificate in Nonprofit Management from the Institute for Nonprofit Management and Leadership at Boston University and she is also the producer of the documentary The Invisible Crisis: the Female Face of Forced Migration.
